Finalmente chegou o grande momento! O dia de experiementar um vestido fabuloso!

O vestido longo, feito de materiais nobres e adornado com detalhes muito especiais, é, geralmente, o indicado para jantares e bailes de gala, passadeiras vermelhas, casamentos depois das 17h e outros eventos cuja formalidade ou dress code o recomendem.

Uma vez mais, um smoking ultra elegante, um jumpsuit fabuloso ou umas calças longas, largas e sedosas, são óptimas alternativas ao vestido tradicional.

A long dress of noble fabrics and embelished with super special details is, pretty often, the right thing to wear to gala dinners and balls, red carpets, evenning weddings and other events the fomalities and dress code require you to.

Again, an elegant smoking, a fabulous jumpsuit or long wide silky trousers, are beautiful alternatives to the traditional dress.

Quando somos baixinhas e queremos um vestido longo, há alguns pormenores que devemos ter em atenção.

E, obviamente, usar saltos altos sempre que possível. Vão facilitar-nos muito a vida.

When we're not blessed with an incredible height and need a long dress, there are some details we must pay attention to. We should also wear high heels unless it's impossible. They'll make it super easier for us.

Let's look at some good examples of outfits you can wear?

Um vestido coluna é óptimo para alongar silhuetas. E, como podem ver, não tem de ser escuro ou competamente direito!

Alguns pequenos volumes que não ultrapassem muito a metade superior do vestido estilizam a silhueta, tornando-a mais interessante.

Truque: Usem saltos bem altos e garantam que a bainha do vestido toca o chão.Já podem dizer olá a umas pernas incrivelmente longas ;)

A column dress is great to lengthen the silhouette. As you can see, it doesn't really need to be dark or strictly straight!

Some little volumes that don't lower the top half too much can define the figure and make it much more interesting.

Tip: Wear sky high heels and make sure the hemline touches the floor. Say hello to super long legs ;)

Os vestidos de sereia - justos até aos joelhos com bastante mais volume a partir daí - nem sempre são muito indicados para as mais baixinhas. Ao colocarem os maiores volumes na zona mais inferior, encurtam visualmente a silhueta.

Mas há formas de contornar o problema! 

Façam como Amanda Seyfred e optem por um vestido justo, cuja saia vai abrindo discretamente até ao chão. Conseguem o desejado efeito sereia sem perderem um milímetro de altura.

Truque: Copiem a gola subida e estreita da actriz para conseguirem acrescentar altura ao tronco. Motivos com tensão vertical tambem ajudam a guiar o olhar nessa direcção.

Mermaid gowns (tight till the knee line and voluminous bellow) may not be the best for petite women. As they're heavier on the bottom, they might shorten the figure.

But there are ways to turn it around! Do it like Amanda Seyfred and pick a close to the body dress with a skirt that flares softly. You will achieve the desired mermaid effect without loosing an inch.

Tip: Copy her halter neck for a taller torso. Vertically tensioned motifs can also guide the eyes in that direction.

Como que por magia, os decotes em V fazem-nos parecer mais altas. Alongam o pesoço e trazem as atenções para cima, exactamente como queremos. Resultam maravilhosamente em jumpsuits e com apanhados que deixem algum volume no topo da cabeça.

Truque:  Defininam uma linha de cintura ligeiramente a cima da linha natural e deixem que o decote termine muito próximo dela. O tronco deve ser justo e a parte inferior (saia ou calça) não deve ser muito volumosa. Com um decote destes, "menos é mais"!

Nota: Este tipo de decotes favorece peitos mais planos. Num busto mais volumoso o alongamento perde-se e corre-se o risco de ficar com um apecto vulgar.

It's a magic trick. Plunging necklines make us look taller. They strecth the neck and bring attentions upwards, right where we want them. They are wonderful in jumpsuits and ask for up-do's with a bit of volume on top of the head.

Tip: Define your waist slightly above the natural line and let the cleavage end pretty close. The torso must be tight and the bottoms should carry little volume. With a plunge like this, "less is more"!

Note: This kind of cleavage flatters the flat chested ladies. A bigger bust loses the lengthening effect and can easily look cheap.

Truque: Preferir vestidos de uma só cor e com detalhes que criem linhas verticais ou oblíquas capazes de dirigir o olhar de baixo para cima.

The jumpsuit in the picture is quite straight (great news for petites) and looks really charming with matching shoes. That's the base we're about to work on, layering a metallic gold cropped jacket. It won't break the base lines and will add a lot of shimmer and texture to the top section, which turns out to be an awsome visual lifting!

The croissant clutch brings that extra flavour and the vibrant headband tops it all like a cherry on a cake!

Tip: When pairing several strong garments - like a golden jacket, a croissant clutch and a flashy headband - at the same time, go for straight cuts, not to contrasting colours and items with minimal embelishments. Your outfit will be clean, harmonious and modern, not looking like you've put too much effort on it. ;)

Um vestido exuberante seria uma belíssima opção. Uma belíssima e segura opção. Querem ousadia? Vistam as calças! Só convém que sejam escuras e estreitas. Neste caso, umas longas calças largas já iam dar um ar mais de gala, uma vez que se podem equiparar a um elegante vestido comprido.

Para compor o look representado na imagem, inspirei-me na alfaiataria masculina e em alguns orientalismos. Um blazer cor de noite com uma écharpe a substituir a lapela, saltos agulha, uma clutch bordada e um acessório de cabelo inesperado, trazem um misto de classe e mistério tão sedutores como um perfume amadeirado.

Tendo em conta que o look já é suficientemente forte, o cabelo deve deve ser usado solto, até sem estar muito "certinho", e a maquilhagem deve ser nude e dar um ligeiro realce ao olhar.

There is no better moment to circle formalities with boldness and creativity.

An exuberant dress would be great! Great and safe. Wanto to stand out? Put your trousers on! As long as they're dark and narrow, it's perfectly fine. Here, long wide trousers would make the look more gala-ish, as those are quite an equivalent to an elegant gown.

For the look in the image above, I looked for inspiration at men's tailoring and some orientalisms.
A night coloured blazer with a silky scarf replacing the lapelle, needle heels, an embroidered clutch and an unexpected hair accessorie, bring a mix of class and mystery dashing as a warm spiced scent.

The outfit is strong enough, so the hair should be down, slightly messy, and the make up should be nude, bringing a soft focus to the eyes.

I wanted to present you with a sweet yet modern outfit. No inspiration was better than the 1960's!

Platform shoes, pale metallic shimmers evoking the "space age", feminine laces and.... Earrings! Big and bright, they do a great job drawing light towards the face and beg for an up-do of great volume. Make up shouldn't be heavy, but the eyes deverve a propper highlight ;)

Este ó tipo de evento que pode acontecer no final de um dia de trabalho. E, por isso, vamos manter tudo muito simples. Programado ou não, têm só alguns minutos para refrescar o look do dia inteiro. A melhor solução, portanto, é garantirem que nunca saem de casa sem um visual bem cuidado e a velha máxima "menos é mais" assenta aqui que nem uma luva.

E que tal calças? Brancas, frescas e cheias de juventude. As calças da imagem são capri. Isso mesmo, desenhadas para terminarem acima dos tornozelos... de mulheres com 1,70m de altura. Experimentem ;)
Bom, combinem as vossas calças estreitas com um top que destaque a cintura e deixem-se encantar por sapatos metalizados. Trazem boas energias!

Para um cocktail é preferível levarem uma mala mais pequena que a do dia-a-dia. Se já tiverem o hábito de usar duas (uma para os bens essenciais - telemóvel, dinheiro, cartões, chaves, etc. - e outra para os "assuntos de trabalho"), óptimo. Guardem a grande e levem a mini. Se não, tentem ter por perto uma carteira de ombro pequenina ou uma maxi clutch neutras, para o caso de precisarem.

O mesmo acontece com os acessórios. Minimalismo com personalidade. Na figura sugiro um anel grande e trabalhado. Podem guardá-lo enquanto trabalham, se sentirem necessidade, e recolocá-lo no final do dia.
A maquilhagem e o cabelo devem ter um aspecto polido. Cabelo solto ou num apanhado simples. Pele impecável e olhos suaves. Tenham sempre um corrector iluminador, pó compacto e rimel por perto. Fazem milagres pelas peles cansadas :)

This kind of event can take place in the end of a work day. So, let's keep things simple. Whether your counting on it or not, you only have a couple of minutes to refresh. Best solution? Never leave home without an effortless chic look. Here, less is definitely more.

Wear trousers! Why not? White, fresh and youthfull. I picked a pair of capris. Oh yeah, the ones designed to end above the ankles... of people at least 1,70m tall. Give them a try ;)
Then, match your slim trousers with a top that flatters your little waist and fall in love with metalic shoes. They bring good energies!

For a cocktail you should carry a bag smaller than your everyday one. If already have the habit of carrying two (one, smaller, for your essentials, and a bigger for work matter), great! Put the big one away and keep the mini. If you don't, try to have a small shoulder bag or a maxi clutch around, just in case. Opt for something that would work with most of your clothes.

The same goes for accessories. Charisma and minimalism. I suggest a statement ring. You can remove it while you work, if you preffer, and put it back on in the end of the day.
Hair and make up shpuld look polished. Wear the hair loose or style it neatly. Keep the skin flawless and the eyes soft. Keeping an illuminating concealer, powder and mascara around can be life saving when your skin looks tired :)

Formal 

A ocasião perfeita para tirar o vestidinho preto do armário. Com linhas próximas do corpo e um laço nas costas, mantém o ar profissional enquanto dá aquele toque de sofisticação que nunca sai de moda. Se se sentirem confortáveis, deixem os ombros destapados. Golas subidas com ombros descobertos aumentam a verticalidade.

Sapatos pretos e acessórios dourados não falham. Sugiro brincos e pulseiras com temas naturais para dar continuidade à suavidade do laço. Um trench coat sedoso compõe o look maravilhosamente.
Para o cabelo e maquilhagem, sejam super glamorosas. Inspirem-se nos visuais mais elegantes dos anos 60!

Queridas petites, agora que já sabem com crescer pelos sapatos, vou mostrar-vos alguns looks de festa que certamente vos cairão que nem uma luva.

Dear petites, now you are aware of how to grow taller from the shoes, I'll show you a few party looks that will lift your beauty to the sky!

2.

 Tea Party

Tea Parties (festas de chá) dão-nos a oportunidade perfeita para tirarmos aquele look com ar de menininha do armário. O dress code convida a cores pastel, rendas adoráveis, laços amorosos, florzinhas doces... E saias midi que ameaçam a nossa altura combinadas com saltos não muito altos!

Ora bolas! Então crescemos a ouvir que o comprimento midi não nos assenta lá muito bem, porque nos rouba centímetros preciosos sem piedade, e agora temos de o usar?! Calma. Bebam o vosso chá e relaxem.

Felizmente, os dress codes de hoje em dia não são tão rígidos. Podem subir a bainha até à altura do joelho ou até usar calças claras (de qualquer forma, os jeans não são muito recomendáveis). Porém, hoje fico-me pelas saias midi. Se conseguirmos fazer com o que o mais difícil funcione, o resto é canja! ;)

Tea Parties are the best occasions to pull off that super girly outfit! The dress code invites you to wear pretty pastels, lovely laces, adorable bows, sweet little flowers... And the height threatning midi lenght skirts with not so high heels! 

Oh well, you've grown up hearing that midi skirts are not so flattering on you as they rob you some precious centimetres with no mercy. At all. And now you must wear one?! Chill. Drink up you tea and relax.

Fortunatelly, dresses codes aren't so rigid anymore. You can wear a knee lenght skirt or even trousers in soft hues (I wouldn't go for jeans, though). But I'm sticking with the midis today. If we can handle the trickiest, the easier ones are just piece of cake, right? ;)

    

Candy Separates

 Quando somos baixinhas e queremos usar uma saia midi, o melhor a fazer é realçar a cintura. Como? Preferindo peças superiores bem cintadas e curtinhas. A cintura subida (não mais do que pela linha natural) é melhor forma de criar a ilusão de pernas mais longas.

Para este look, escolhi uma t-shirt um pouco mais longa, que deve ser usada por dento da saia. O casaco é curto, cintado e tem um ligeiro peplum que ajuda a dar mais curvas à silhueta, afinando a cintura, e a cortar um pouco o bloco da saia sem nos encurtar as pernas.

Quanto às cores, optei por rosas e amarelos em várias texturas (lisos, brocados, metalizados), para dar um ar de doçura primaveril. Os metalizados modernizam instantaneamente um look mais ameninado ou a tender para o vintage.

Já me esquecia! Um apanhado alto e com algum volume é outro bom truque para crescer!

When we are short and want to wear a midi skirt, we should accentuate our waist. How? Going for short fitted tops. High waists (not higher than the natural line) are the best way to make our legs look longer.

For this look, I chose a longer t-shirt that should be tucked under the skirt. The jacket is short, fitted at the waist and has a little peplum to add more curves to the silhouette, so the waist looks smaller. The short peplum breaks the skirt block a bit, without shortenning the legs.

Moving to the colours, I went for pinks and yellows in several textures (smooths, brocades, metallics) to achieve a spring sweetness. Metallics are great instant modernizers for girly and a bit too much vintage-like looks.

For a little extra height, put your hair up and add some volume on top of the head. ;)

Heavenly Touch

 

 Este segundo look é mais discreto, mas nem por isso aborrecido! Parte de um vestido simples, de uma só cor, que é uma óptima base para acessórios vistosos.

Usar a mesma cor dos pés à cabeça e optar por linhas direitas é outro truque para parecermos mais altas e esguias. Como o vestido não vai até ao chão, uns sapatos num tom próximo do da pele contribuem para o alongamento referido.

O casaco brocado e o colar de pérolas ajudam a dar algum brilho e romantismo. O lenço ficará lindíssimo na cabeça, usado como fita ou atado a um coque ou rabo de cavalo altos. É uma grande tendência para a primavera 2013, que todas as petites deveriam experimentar!

 This look is simpler but doesn't miss the fun! Its base is a simple monochromatic dress, which is great to accessorize.

Wearing the same colour head to toe and opting for straight lines is a great way to look longer and leaner. As the dress doesn't reach the floor, skin tone shoes won't break that beautiful line.

The brocade jacket and the pearl necklace add shine and romance. The scarf will look lovely as a headband or wrapped around a high bun or ponytail. It's a big trend this spring and something every petite should give a try!

La Belle Petite has a Party!!!

Escolher o look perfeito para uma festa pode ser uma grande dor de cabeça.... Especialmente quando se mede menos de 1,60m. Eu bem sei. O meu metro e cinquenta e oito costuma ser perito em fazer-me desanimar sempre que vou experimentar um vestido longo ou um jumpsuit... Coloco a cintura na devida posição e não é que me sobra sempre um palmo de tecido por cima dos ombros? É irritante, mas tem solução.

Finding the perfect look for a party can be quite tricky... Especially if you're not even 1,60m tall. Oh, I Know what it's like. My modest 1,58m expertised in making feel sad everytime I try a long dress or a jumpsuit... When I place the waist where it's supposed to be, a palm of fabric pops on top of my shoulders out of nowhere... It's fairly annoying, but can be fixed.

Apesar de não de não ter formação como stylist, procuro sempre informar-me bem sobre o assunto para vos dar as melhores opções! Neste caso em particular, acredito que quase 23 anos de experiência na petitice possam ser uma ajuda valiosa ;)

O problema da altura

 The height issue

A nossa primeira preocupação é encontrar peças que criem a ilusão de alongamento. Podemos sempre parecer mais altas! E, acreditem ou não, as festas estão do nosso lado. Mas como?

 Our main concern is creating the illusion of length. We can always look taller! And, believe it or not, parties are your best friends. But how?   

1.  

Crescimento acelerado

Fast Growth 

Pois muito bem, se não tiverem nenhum impedimento físico, façam o favor de acrescentar pelo menos 10 cm às vossas pernas com belo par de saltos altos. Dependendo da ocasião e do que estejam a usar, podem sempre usar sapatos com compensação ou plataforma para conseguirem suportar ainda mais centímetros. 

Mas atenção! Isto das plataformas tem que se lhes diga! Verifiquem sempre se o sapato é proporcional à vossa estrutura. De uma forma geral, o volume do sapato deve condizer e nunca contrastar demasiado com o volume das pernas e tornozelos. Pernas finas, sapatos esguios. Pernas largas, sapatos robustos. Esta regra aplica-se a toda a gente, mas quando as pernas são menos longas as desproporções saltam logo à vista.

Outro truque é escolher sapatos bem decotados, sejam eles rasos (especialmente se forem rasos!) ou de salto alto. Quanto maior for o declive e maior a área de pele exposta, mais longas as pernas vão parecer. Se fizerem mesmo questão de usar rasos, prefiram modelos com um pequeno salto de 2 a 4cm. Vão sentir-se perfeitamente confortáveis e o vosso refelxo vai agradecer aquela pequena elevação do peito do pé. ;)

A cor também é importante, principalmente se os sapatos forem mais fechados. Sapatos da cor da pele ou dos collants ajudam a criar uma ilusão de alongamento.

Sapatos ligeiramente pontiagudos ou abertos na frente também são boas opções. Se queiserem sapatos com tiras no tornozelo, prefiram as mais discretas, de forma a não cortatem a linha longa que se esforçaram tanto para construir ;)

My dear readers, if you're able to please add at least 10cm to you legs with a nice pair of heels. Depending on the occasion and what you're wearing, you can go for platforms in order to get a few extra centimetres.

But pay attention! Platforms are tricky! Please be aware if the shoe is proportional to your frame. In most cases, the shoe volume should continue the legs and ankles wideness without creating big contrasts. Slim legs go with slender shoes. Wider legs go with stronger shoes. This rule fits most people, but when you don't have long legs the lack of proportion is the first thing you notice.

Another awome trick is wearing shoes with a deep cleavage, wether they're flat (especially if they're flat!) or tall. The higher the foot is and the more skin it shows, the longer the legs will look. If you really want to wear flats, go for those with a heel of 2 to 4cm. You're going to feel perfectly comfortable and your reflection will thank that little elevation under the heel. :)

Colour is also important. The more a shoe covers your feet, the more you'll realise that. A safe choice is opting for shoes in nude tones or the same colour of your tights, as it ellongates your legs.

Slightly pointy shoes or peep toes are also great! If want ankle straps, make sure their barely seen, otherwise you'll be cutting off the long line you've put so much effort on.
