Quando se fica pelos clássicos, não aborrece. Sim, ela é mesmo uma daquelas francesas que parecem que acordam prontas para deslumbrar. E o melhor de tudo? Não é alta!

This super chic french girl has been one of favorites on the red carpet. She's never excessive or too plain. Sometimes she takes risks. When she opts for the classics, she manages not to look boring at all.The best? She's not that tall!

Para não correr o risco de parecer mais baixa, Marion prefere vestidos relativamente monocromáticos e mantém a cintura bem definida. Ultimamente, tem aparecido com modelos sem alças e decote horizontal que valorizam os seus ombros. Depois, brinca com os volumes e comprimentos das saias, demonstrando uma clara e acertada preferência pelas assimetrias (optimas para criar a ilusão de uma maior altura!). In order to avoid looking shorter, Marion rocks mainly monochromatic dresses and keeps the waist in place. Latelly, she's been sporting strapeless gowns with a shoulder flattering horizontal cleavage. From there, she plays with the volumes and legths of her skirts, showing a clear and accurate love for assymetries (a great trick to look taller!). In the end, she steps up ponty stilettos to gain a few more centimetres!

Jennifer Lawrence é umas das minhas últimas prediletas da passadeira vermelha. Fresca e jovem, a atriz é o mais recente rosto da campanha da carteira Miss Dior e uma outra musa de Raf Simons.

A Jen podia ser mais uma rapariga da porta ao lado, mas é bem mais requintada do que isso. Alta, dona de uma beleza clássica, de um físico invejável e de uma personalidade genuinamente encantadora, está prestes a iniciar uma nova geração de estrelas de cinema.  Longe dos folhos cansativos e dos mais do que vistos vestidos totalmente transparentes bordados da cabeça aos pés, ela transmite a elegância das divas de outrora de uma forma extremamente moderna. Claro que as criações de Raf Simons para a Dior ajudam e muito. De qualquer forma, o mais interessante de tudo isto, é que tais vestidos parecem ter sido desenhados a pensar nela.

Jennifer Lawrence is one of my latest red carpet crushes. Young and fresh, the actress is the beustiful star of Miss Dior bag campaign and another great muse of Raf's.

Jen could be another girl next door. But she is more exquisite than that. Tall, owner of classic beauty and a killer body and genuinelly charming in person, she's about to start a new age of movie stars. Away from exhausting ruffles and far more than seen head to toe embroidered sheer gowns, she channels the elegance of the great divas in a very modern way. Of course wearing Raf Simon's dresses for Dior helps a lot. But, what makes it all so special is the way the dresses look like they were designed just for her.

Finalmente chegou o grande momento! O dia de experiementar um vestido fabuloso!

O vestido longo, feito de materiais nobres e adornado com detalhes muito especiais, é, geralmente, o indicado para jantares e bailes de gala, passadeiras vermelhas, casamentos depois das 17h e outros eventos cuja formalidade ou dress code o recomendem.

Uma vez mais, um smoking ultra elegante, um jumpsuit fabuloso ou umas calças longas, largas e sedosas, são óptimas alternativas ao vestido tradicional.

A long dress of noble fabrics and embelished with super special details is, pretty often, the right thing to wear to gala dinners and balls, red carpets, evenning weddings and other events the fomalities and dress code require you to.

Again, an elegant smoking, a fabulous jumpsuit or long wide silky trousers, are beautiful alternatives to the traditional dress.

When we're not blessed with an incredible height and need a long dress, there are some details we must pay attention to. We should also wear high heels unless it's impossible. They'll make it super easier for us.

Let's look at some good examples of outfits you can wear?

Um vestido coluna é óptimo para alongar silhuetas. E, como podem ver, não tem de ser escuro ou competamente direito!

Alguns pequenos volumes que não ultrapassem muito a metade superior do vestido estilizam a silhueta, tornando-a mais interessante.

Truque: Usem saltos bem altos e garantam que a bainha do vestido toca o chão.Já podem dizer olá a umas pernas incrivelmente longas ;)

A column dress is great to lengthen the silhouette. As you can see, it doesn't really need to be dark or strictly straight!

Some little volumes that don't lower the top half too much can define the figure and make it much more interesting.

Tip: Wear sky high heels and make sure the hemline touches the floor. Say hello to super long legs ;)

Os vestidos de sereia - justos até aos joelhos com bastante mais volume a partir daí - nem sempre são muito indicados para as mais baixinhas. Ao colocarem os maiores volumes na zona mais inferior, encurtam visualmente a silhueta.

Mas há formas de contornar o problema! 

Façam como Amanda Seyfred e optem por um vestido justo, cuja saia vai abrindo discretamente até ao chão. Conseguem o desejado efeito sereia sem perderem um milímetro de altura.

Truque: Copiem a gola subida e estreita da actriz para conseguirem acrescentar altura ao tronco. Motivos com tensão vertical tambem ajudam a guiar o olhar nessa direcção.

Mermaid gowns (tight till the knee line and voluminous bellow) may not be the best for petite women. As they're heavier on the bottom, they might shorten the figure.

But there are ways to turn it around! Do it like Amanda Seyfred and pick a close to the body dress with a skirt that flares softly. You will achieve the desired mermaid effect without loosing an inch.

Tip: Copy her halter neck for a taller torso. Vertically tensioned motifs can also guide the eyes in that direction.

Como que por magia, os decotes em V fazem-nos parecer mais altas. Alongam o pesoço e trazem as atenções para cima, exactamente como queremos. Resultam maravilhosamente em jumpsuits e com apanhados que deixem algum volume no topo da cabeça.

Truque:  Defininam uma linha de cintura ligeiramente a cima da linha natural e deixem que o decote termine muito próximo dela. O tronco deve ser justo e a parte inferior (saia ou calça) não deve ser muito volumosa. Com um decote destes, "menos é mais"!

Nota: Este tipo de decotes favorece peitos mais planos. Num busto mais volumoso o alongamento perde-se e corre-se o risco de ficar com um apecto vulgar.

It's a magic trick. Plunging necklines make us look taller. They strecth the neck and bring attentions upwards, right where we want them. They are wonderful in jumpsuits and ask for up-do's with a bit of volume on top of the head.

Tip: Define your waist slightly above the natural line and let the cleavage end pretty close. The torso must be tight and the bottoms should carry little volume. With a plunge like this, "less is more"!

Note: This kind of cleavage flatters the flat chested ladies. A bigger bust loses the lengthening effect and can easily look cheap.

Mas é claro que uma rapariga pouco alta pode usar saias volumosas de princesa!

Basta manter o tronco bem justo, a cintura bem marcada, usar saltos altos e um penteado que acrescente centímetros.

Truque: Preferir vestidos de uma só cor e com detalhes que criem linhas verticais ou oblíquas capazes de dirigir o olhar de baixo para cima.

All it takes is keeping the bust tight, the waist in place, wearing heels and a hairstyle that can make you taller.

Tip: Go for dresses of one colour and embelished with details capable of creating vertical or diagonal lines that draw attentions upwards.

Cocktail 

A palavra chave de hoje é cocktail. Festas de cocktail e vestidos de cocktail. Mas o que terão de tão especial?
Tal como o nome sugere, as festas ou recepções de cocktail são forma de socialização elegante, mais ou menos formal, em que servem aperitivos e bebidas espirituosas. Costumam ocupar o final da tarde e podem anteceder um jantar. O dress code, potanto, não tem a formalidade de uma gala, mas requere algum cuidado e elegância. E saltos altos.

Today's word is cocktail. Cocktail parties and cocktail dresses.But what can be so special about them?
As the name suggests, cocktail parties or receptions are fancy, more or less formal, way of socializing. Guest are invited to enjoy spirits and appetizers. Cocktails usually take place in the evening/late afternoon and can antecipate a dinner. So, no gala formalities are required, but the dress code demands elegance and polish. And high heels.

Os vestidos de cocktail, por norma, não ultrapassam a linha do joelho e podem até ser mais curtinhos. Ou seja, o comprimento perfeito para petites!

Nos dias que correm, calças elegantes e macacões também são muito bem vindos. A formalidade ou sumptuosidade do dress estão mais implícitas nas características do evento do que na palavra cocktail. Podemos usar vestidos cocktail em casamentos, festas de aniversário, eventos de trabalho, etc. E não nos vestimos para um casamento exactamente da mesma forma que nos vestimos para o cocktail da empresa, certo?

Cocktail dresses don't go bellow the knee very often and can also be fairly shorter. Oh yes! The perfect length for petites!

Nowadays, elegant trousers and jumpsuits are welcome as well. The dress code's formality ou glamour degree is more related to the event itself than to the word cocktail. We can wear cocktail dresses at weddings, birthday parties, work events and so on. And we don't quite dress to a wedding the same way we dress to the company cocktail, right?

As mulheres petite são geralmente proporcionais, não apresentando disparidades muito obvias entre o comprimento das pernas e do tronco. Vamos tirar partido disso e crescer virtualmente?

Sim? Boa! 
Então apostemos em roupas com linhas próximas do corpo, princesa, rectangulares ou ligeiramente trapezóides.
Lembrem-se que queremos salientar a cintura ou, pelo menos, fazer com que a parte superior do tronco pareça mais estreita para as pernas parecerem mais longas. Crescer pelo tronco não resulta.

Petite women are usually proportional and imune to big differences in their legs and torsos lengths. Shall we use it in our favour?

Let's bet on  closer to the body silhouettes, princess lines, rectangle and trapeze shapes. Remember we want oto emphasize the waist  and, at leat, make sure the top half of the torso is looking narrow so the legs look longer. Grow from the torso never ends well!

Não temam roupas mais justinhas! Se certificarem que o corte é impecável, vão adorar o resultado! 
Se mesmo assim quiserem desfilar uma figura mais esguia, prefiram vestidos mais escuros, de uma cor só... Ou adiram aos illusion dresses que tenham a parte mais escura nas laterais. O corpo fica esculpido num instante! 

Os vestidos mais justos coordenam-se maravilhosamente com casacos (do clássico trench aos mais estruturados) e com boyfriend blazers, pelo que são óptimos para os cocktails de trabalho e para aqueles jantares tão especiais. ;)

Fear not those skin tight clothes! If you make sure the cut is impeccable, you're gonna love how it fits!
Still, if you feel like you'd be more comfortable with a more trimmed figure, go for darkes monochromatic dresses... Or give illusion dresses a try! Those with darker sides will sculpt your body in a blink of an eye!

Tighter dresses work wonderfully with coats (from the classic trench to the most structured) and boyfriend blazers, which makes them perfect for company cocktails and those super special dinner dates. ;)

Realçam a cintura e suavizam ancas mais largas. E, oposto também acontece! Os corpos mais direitos ganham algumas curvas. Por isso mesmo, a limha princesa favorece a maioria dos tipos de corpo.
São extremamente femininos e inegavelmente românticos. As ocasiões ideais para os usar? As mais festivas!! Casamentos, aniversários e celebrações afins. Também são uma óptima escolha para um primeiro encontro a dois. ;)

 The wais is enhanced and wider hips are softened as well as straighter bodies gain a slight hourglass figure. This is why the princess line flatters most body types.
This silhouette is extremelly feminine and obviously romantic, which makes it perfect the most festive occasions!! Wear it at weddings, anniversaries and celebrations alike. It's also great for a first date. ;)

As silhuetas rectangulares gritam "chique" sem qualquer inibição. São as melhores amigas do minimalismo e adaptam-se a todos os estilos, dos mais puristas aos mais ornamentais. Sim, um vestido de linhas direitas, com alguma estrutura, é A peça que se multiplica ao sabor dos acessórios. Como não marca as linhas do corpo, as petites devem optar por comprimentos acima do joelho, mas não mais curtos do que o meio da coxa. Mangas que deixem o antebraço ou parte dele a descoberto tiram peso ao bloco rectangular.

Ocasiões ideais? Todas! O vestido dá cartas pela versatilidade. Abusem da criatividade e joguem a cartada final com acessórios fantásticos!

Rectangle silhouettes scream "chic" all over. They're best frinds with minimalism and fit every style, from the most purists to the most embellished. Oh yes, a straight dress with a bit of structure is THE item you can maximize with accessories. As it doesn't really show the body, petites should go for shorter lengths ( between the knee and mid-thigh lines). Sleeves showing off the forearm or part of it take weight away from the rectangular block.

Ideal occasions? All of them! Take its versatility as an advantage and be creative with accessories!

Estreita nos ombros, larga na zona mais inferior. Resulta maravilhosamente em peças mais estruturadas e é muito sedutora em peças mais fluídas. As petites devem preferir trapézios de base não muito larga, para tirarem o melhor proveito possível do dinamismo das diagonais. Algumas assimetrias no comprimento podem funcionar muitissimo bem na hora de nos alongarem!

A linha trapézio também é muito versátil e adpata-se bem a qualquer ocasião.

Narrow at the shoulders, wider at the base. It works wondefully in structured clothes and is very seductive when applied to light and floaty fabrics. Petites should wear trapezoid clothes with a smaller base, to take the best profits from the dynamic diagonals. Some length assymetries can be pretty elongating!

Trapezium line is also very versatile and adjustable to any situation.

La Belle Petite has a Party!!!

Escolher o look perfeito para uma festa pode ser uma grande dor de cabeça.... Especialmente quando se mede menos de 1,60m. Eu bem sei. O meu metro e cinquenta e oito costuma ser perito em fazer-me desanimar sempre que vou experimentar um vestido longo ou um jumpsuit... Coloco a cintura na devida posição e não é que me sobra sempre um palmo de tecido por cima dos ombros? É irritante, mas tem solução.

Finding the perfect look for a party can be quite tricky... Especially if you're not even 1,60m tall. Oh, I Know what it's like. My modest 1,58m expertised in making feel sad everytime I try a long dress or a jumpsuit... When I place the waist where it's supposed to be, a palm of fabric pops on top of my shoulders out of nowhere... It's fairly annoying, but can be fixed.

Apesar de não de não ter formação como stylist, procuro sempre informar-me bem sobre o assunto para vos dar as melhores opções! Neste caso em particular, acredito que quase 23 anos de experiência na petitice possam ser uma ajuda valiosa ;)

O problema da altura

 The height issue

A nossa primeira preocupação é encontrar peças que criem a ilusão de alongamento. Podemos sempre parecer mais altas! E, acreditem ou não, as festas estão do nosso lado. Mas como?

 Our main concern is creating the illusion of length. We can always look taller! And, believe it or not, parties are your best friends. But how?   

1.  

Crescimento acelerado

Fast Growth 

Pois muito bem, se não tiverem nenhum impedimento físico, façam o favor de acrescentar pelo menos 10 cm às vossas pernas com belo par de saltos altos. Dependendo da ocasião e do que estejam a usar, podem sempre usar sapatos com compensação ou plataforma para conseguirem suportar ainda mais centímetros. 

Mas atenção! Isto das plataformas tem que se lhes diga! Verifiquem sempre se o sapato é proporcional à vossa estrutura. De uma forma geral, o volume do sapato deve condizer e nunca contrastar demasiado com o volume das pernas e tornozelos. Pernas finas, sapatos esguios. Pernas largas, sapatos robustos. Esta regra aplica-se a toda a gente, mas quando as pernas são menos longas as desproporções saltam logo à vista.

Outro truque é escolher sapatos bem decotados, sejam eles rasos (especialmente se forem rasos!) ou de salto alto. Quanto maior for o declive e maior a área de pele exposta, mais longas as pernas vão parecer. Se fizerem mesmo questão de usar rasos, prefiram modelos com um pequeno salto de 2 a 4cm. Vão sentir-se perfeitamente confortáveis e o vosso refelxo vai agradecer aquela pequena elevação do peito do pé. ;)

A cor também é importante, principalmente se os sapatos forem mais fechados. Sapatos da cor da pele ou dos collants ajudam a criar uma ilusão de alongamento.

Sapatos ligeiramente pontiagudos ou abertos na frente também são boas opções. Se queiserem sapatos com tiras no tornozelo, prefiram as mais discretas, de forma a não cortatem a linha longa que se esforçaram tanto para construir ;)

My dear readers, if you're able to please add at least 10cm to you legs with a nice pair of heels. Depending on the occasion and what you're wearing, you can go for platforms in order to get a few extra centimetres.

But pay attention! Platforms are tricky! Please be aware if the shoe is proportional to your frame. In most cases, the shoe volume should continue the legs and ankles wideness without creating big contrasts. Slim legs go with slender shoes. Wider legs go with stronger shoes. This rule fits most people, but when you don't have long legs the lack of proportion is the first thing you notice.

Another awome trick is wearing shoes with a deep cleavage, wether they're flat (especially if they're flat!) or tall. The higher the foot is and the more skin it shows, the longer the legs will look. If you really want to wear flats, go for those with a heel of 2 to 4cm. You're going to feel perfectly comfortable and your reflection will thank that little elevation under the heel. :)

Colour is also important. The more a shoe covers your feet, the more you'll realise that. A safe choice is opting for shoes in nude tones or the same colour of your tights, as it ellongates your legs.

Slightly pointy shoes or peep toes are also great! If want ankle straps, make sure their barely seen, otherwise you'll be cutting off the long line you've put so much effort on.

 Espero que estas dicas vos sejam úteis, mas não as levem demasiado a sério. Vocês são únicas e o vosso estilo deve reflectir essa singularidade. Este tipo de "ajuda" é bem vindo quando não estamos muito familiarizadas com a moda e com o que nos fica bem ou mal. Mas não há nada que seja proíbido! Brincar com as proporções pode ser tão divertido quanto favorecedor. Sejam creativas e construam um look que faça com que o objecto "estranho" funcione! Com o tempo, vão ser a única stylist a quem darão ouvidos!
