O objectivo de dar uma dimensão diferente ao seu trabalho levou Mary Katrantzou a esbater o colorido vibrante que a deu a conhecer ao mundo. Em vez de transmitir força pela cor, preferiu evidenciar a forma de cada silhueta (um pouco como Cristobal Balenciaga, que incluia sempre um vestido preto nas suas colecções para que os olhares se pudessem focar nos seus cortes vanguardistas).
Mary Katrantzou's aim of shifting her work from her signature vibrant colours to strong, razor cut shapes happened this season. Cristobal Balenciaga, who always included a black dress in each collection to enhance his vangardist silhouettes, appears to have been an inspiration to her.
Ainda assim, a monocromia não foi total. Não havia um único bloco de preto, branco ou cinzento maciços. Havia estampados, como habitualmente. Estampados que poderiam ser autênticas fotografias pintadas com a escala de cinzas das memórias mais remotas. O brilho dos tecidos envolvia as paisagens mais lunares numa névoa de magia leve e doce como uma canção de embalar.
Still, what Katrantzou expressed as monochromo was realy far from dense black, whithe or grey blocks. There were her usual digital prints. Prints that could be photographs painted in the delicate grey scale of the deepest memories. The fabrics soft glow added the magic myst of moonlight to landscapes mild and sweet as lullabies.
