Apesar de muitas lojas já estarem com promoções há muito tempo, a época de saldos começou oficialmente ontem! Nestes dias, em que tudo é aparentemente barato e em que o chamariz dos descontos parece sobrepor-se à nossa racionalidade, é muito fácil sentir-mo-nos desorientadas e (em nome dos preços baixos!!!) cometermos alguns dos maiores erros de estilo.
Depois de alguns anos a espreitar, experimentar, a ERRAR e a ler sobre o assunto, consegui refinar o meu radar de pechinchas. Hoje em dia, nunca vou aos saldos sem os meus 10 mandamentos bem memorizados. São simples e resultam para mim. Espero que vos sejam úteis!
Although many stores have been hosting reductions for a while, sales season started officialy yesterday! These days, the appeal of low prices can easily overcome our brain and lead us to desorientation. These are also the times when, for the sake of our budget, we make some of our biggest style mistakes.
After some years of a lot of personal research and mistakes, I managed to refine my bargain radar. Nowadays, I never head to a sale without remembering my 10 survival rules. They work for me, and I hope they're gonna be useful for you as well.
1. Ok, é barato. Gosto? Está em bom estado? Assenta-me bem? Vou usá-lo? - se responder sim às quatro questões, a peça é sua! Se responder não a alguma das questões, livre-se desse trapo!
1. Ok, it's really cheap. Do I like it? Is it in good shape? Does it fit me? Will I wear it? - if you answered yes to all, congratulations, it's yours! If you answered no to any of the questions, get rid of it!
2. Sonho com esta peça há meses e agora não há o meu tamanho!
- Dois números abaixo do que costumo vestir? - Por amor à sua auto-estima, não tente enfiar isso! (se a loja lhe oferecer essa possibilidade, investigue o website. Poderá ter a sorte de encontrar o seu tamanho num outro estabelecimento).
- Só há números maiores? - Pode avançar para o provador. Mas com um espírito crítico acutilante! Se parece um saco, esqueça! Se não está DEMASIADO grande, pondere se precisa de arranjos. Se sim, a razão preço/qualidade da peça justificam tal investimento? Se sim, força! Se não, a nova colecção encarregar-se-à de remendar o seu coraçãozinho fashionista num instante!
2. I'm dreaming of this item for months and my size is no longer available!
- Two sizes bellow your usual? - For the sake of your self-estheem, don't even dare trying that on! If the store offers that service, go online and check if your size is available elsewhere. You might be lucky!
- Are there only bigger sizes? - You can try it on. But sharp your criticism firt! If it looks baggy, lose it! If it's not TOO BIG, consider eventual fixes. If you'll need to fit the garment to your body, think if the price and quality will pay off. If you think so, go ahed! If not, the new collection will fix your little fashionista heart in no time!
3. É um daqueles básicos de guarda-roupa que lhe anda a falhar? - Esta questão é das mais complexas e das que exigem maior ponderação.
- Básicos = peças versáteis e intemporais, que assentam impecavelmente.
- São investimentos. Querem-se duráveis, logo a qualidade não deve ser comprometida. Por essa razão, merecem que gaste mais dinheiro com eles do que com aquela blusa fantástica cujo estampado se vai aposentar em Setembro.
- Nesta categoria incluem-se: jeans (skinny, slim ou de corte direito), calças pretas (estreitas e largas), camisa branca de algodão (boyfriend ou mais cintada), T-shirts brancas e pretas, cardigans, uma peça de caxemira, uma blusa de seda (ou imitação), um Little Black Dress (vestidinho preto), um lenço comprido de seda, uma saia-lápis (preta ou de outra cor neutra), bailarinas, stilletos pretos e nude, um trench coat, um blazer (preto ou de outra cor neutra), casaco estilo Chanel (em tweed, preto ou pérola), um bom casaco comprido de inverno (preto e camel são clássicos, boas fazendas e caxemiras são deliciosas), uma clutch rígida preta, uma carteira de ombro ou tote bag (clássica, grande, funcional e resistente para guardar o seu dia-a-dia) e, claro está, dois ou três conjuntos de lingerie (um nude, um preto e um mais especial), um pijama e um robe de seda.

- Basics = versatile and timeless itmes that come with a perfect fit.
- They are investments. You want them to last, so you're not allowed to compromise quality! That being the case, they deserve you to spend more money on them than you should spend on that blouse with an eyecatching print you'll but on the back of your closet in September.
- In these category you find: jeans (skinny, slim or straight), black trousers (narrow or wide), white cotton shirts (boyfrend or waisted), white and black fitted T-shirts, cardigans, cashmere tops, silk blouses, Little Black Dresses, long silk scarves, pencil skirts (black or in other neutral tone), Chanel-style jackets, black and nude stilletos, trench coats, blazers (black or in other neutral tone), good winter coats, a black boxy clutch, a shoulder bag or a tote (classy, functional and resistent to keep your daily essencials) and, of course, two or three lingerie sets and silk robes and pajamas.

Tem allure e jogo de cintura suficientes para elevar básicos a um nível mais festivo? Apesar de não dar para o dia-a-dia, tem qualquer coisa de intemporal? O preço é irrecusável? Se sim, volte ao ponto 1. Teve quatro sim? O seu closet vai agradecer.

Does it have the allure to upgrade basics to party looking ensembles? Despite you won't be wearing them on a daily basis, do they look timeless? Is the price to die for? If so, go back to rule no. 1. Can you take for yes out of it? Your closet will thank you.
5. Enquadra-se nas tendências da próxima estação?
Nem mais, nunca deve ir aos saldos sem ter uma pequena ideia do que vai estar in na estação seguinte. Aquele casaco lindíssimo é demasiado quente para os próximos meses, mas vai arrasar nos meses mais frios? Teve quatro sim no ponto 1? Comece já a renovar o closet!
5. Will it be on trend next season?
That's right, you should never visit a sale without having in mind what will be in the following season. Are you checking out a gorgeous jacket that happens to be too warm for the next couple of months, but will rock in cooler days? Four yes on rule no. 1? Take it home!
6. Acessórios, Acessórios, Acessórios!
No reino das bijuterias (quase) tudo é permitido. Quer esteja a pensar no Verão, no Inverno ou numa ocasião em especial, desde que não descarte o seu bom gosto, pode levar o que quiser. Comprou um colar maxi que até nem tem nada a ver com o seu estilo ou uns brincos mais compridos que o seu pescoço, mas que até ficavam bem na parede da sua sala? Emoldure-os!
6. Accessories! Accessories! Accessories!
In the kingdom of jewelry (almost) everything is allowed. Whether you're thinking about the summer, the Winter or a special event, you can take whatever you want (but keep your good taste in mind!). Did you buy an oversized necklace that doesn't match you at all? How good would it look on your living room wall? Frame it!

Vai para a praia e ainda lhe falta um fato de banho e uma toalha a condizer? Não faltam bons modelitos a preços apetecíveis! Sem esquecer o ponto 1 (é absolutamente essencial que a peça que mais expõe o nosso corpo nos favoreça!), escolha o seu favorito.
7. Complete your summer essencials set.
Going to the beach and missing a good looking swimsuit and a matching towel? Good for you, there are still plenty nice pieces with even nicer prices! Keeping rule no. 1 in mind (oh yeah, that thing will be showing off your body, so it must be flattering!), pick your favorite.
8. Comece Online.
Hoje em dia, quase todas as marcas e lojas estão representadas no vasto mundo da Internet. Espreite as suas marcas favoritas, veja se algo lhe interessa e onde está disponível, caso não pretenda encomendar. Se tiver planos de fazer grandes compras, faça uma lista como o que lhe interessa mais, o preço e ponto de venda. Não só vai ter a noção de quanto irá gastar, mas também poupará tempo quando se for aventurar na selva dos saldos!
8. Start Online.
Almost every label or store is online. Check out your favorites, see what catches your eye and where it can be found, in case you don't want to order. If you're planning on buying a lot of clothes make a list that includes the items you want, their price and location. Not only it will make you more aware of your budget, but it will also save your time in sale jungle!
9. Vá com tempo!
NUNCA, mas nunca, vá aos saldos com pressa. O erro é (90%) garantido. Não tem que correr o centro comercial inteiro de uma só vez! Experimente uma loja de cada vez, com calma. E sim, entre naquelas que evita habitualmente pelo preço mais elevado. Poderá ter surpresas maravilhosas!
9. Take your time!
NEVER ever head to a sale on a rush! It's 90% sure you'll go wrong. You don't also have to run the whole mall at once! Try one store at a time, at your own pace. And yes, visit those you'd find too expensive on regular times. You might have wonderful surprises!
10. Aproveite para espreitar a nova colecção.
Pode já começar a pensar em alguns investimentos futuros (há peças interessantes que "desaparecem" quando a nova colecção chega em força). Lembre-se que, apesar de a meteorologia e a crise económica jogarem contra nós, as colecções de moda vivem com outro ritmo e, por vezes, para conseguirmos o guarda-roupa que queremos, temos que o construir com antecedência. E, quanto mais não seja, sabe sempre bem "pôr o olho" na parte mais arrumadinha da loja depois de se ter andado a mergulhar em montanhas de roupas indistinguíveis.

It's ok to start thinking ahed (there are interesting items that "vanish" when the new collections takes over the place). Remember the fashion calendar doesn't really follow the weather and the economy. That means sometimes we should move ahed of the clock to build that great wardrobe. Even if you're not considering buying anything so soon, it's calming looking at the neatest part of the store after feelong lost in the middle of messy clothes.
